Can Nootropic Coffee Amp Up Your Workout?

And should you recommend it to your clients?

The internet noise in the fitness industry these days is loud. With just a quick google search you can find endless lists of tips and tricks on the right exercises, what you should and shouldn’t be eating, the best way to support your workout, what the celebs are doing, what your next door neighbour is doing, what your next door neighbour’s cat is doing…

Nowadays there’s also a bounty of products on the market. Where once you may have had to be in-the-know or in the industry to be able to source a good protein bar (even if it did still taste a little cardboardy), now any Tom, Dick or Harriet can choose from a gargantuan list of bars online, with producers ranging from new independents, to the companies that are well established, like the popular Grenade. Even the big fish like Mars are weighing in on the nations need for something sweet to supplement their workout.

And it isn’t just protein bars, it’s shakes, powders, sauces, spreads, savoury snacks, cakes, and high protein hybrids of everyday food items. A quick trip to Morrisons and you can find yourself some protein cheese. Pop to Waitrose and pick up some protein yoghurt. That’s not to mention, of course, the supplements – BCAA’s, Creatine, Taurine, Beta Alanine and other amino acids in gel form, drinks, capsules and powders. And where there’s products, there are reviews and recommendations, and all of a sudden you can find yourself so overwhelmed by the noise, you’ve created a protein pharmacy in your own home. And how do you know if any of it is actually having an impact? It’s easy to fall prey to good advertising and think you have the miracle cure to the ultimate gains. Brand ambassadors will have you thinking “If I just have those BCAAs during my workout…”. And then it’ll be “I need to make sure I’m only eating protein yoghurt with my protein weetabix”, and so on and so on and so on...

Find the simplicity in the noise and the science in the shopping basket

Sometimes it’s good to simplify. To go back to the basics. Because with the product flooding comes the inevitable questions. Do BCAA’s really help muscle recovery? Do I need to buy a protein powder? Can’t I get the same protein by adding an extra nutritious meal to my day?

Pre-workouts are one of the biggest causes for debate in this landscape. After all, isn’t a pre workout just a caffeine hit? So, instead of paying loads trying to find the best pre-workout on the market, why not simply:

  • Eat a banana – Natures pre-workout fruit. An excellent source of carbohydrates, sugar and starch. They contain glucose, fructose, and sucrose – essentially the same contents as your favourite sugary sports drink. They’re also loaded with potassium, which helps muscle function during your workout.
  • Have a coffee – Drinking caffeinated coffee before a workout can help fat cells to burn as energy instead of glycogen, and can help to improve focus and energy during your workout.

Go one step further by switching the coffee for an Instant Genius Coffee, packed with nootropic ingredients that hone in on your energy and motivation, and amp them up to the next level. There’s nothing worse than getting to the gym with the hopes of lifting heavy, and feeling drained or unmotivated.

Imagine being able to hand your clients a pack of instant motivation. How might that change their energy and drive in your sessions? How might that change the results they get from you? Food for thought, isn’t it?

But don’t just trust us…Here’s what our tribe of converted trainers have had to say about it:

“Being a personal trainer and delivering 8-10 sessions a day, I need my focus . This coffee is different! It gives me a longer balanced focus and concentration level I've not experienced with any other coffee” Riley

“I wouldn’t be able to start my day any other way now” Catherine
