7 Foods That Could Boost Your Brain Power

We all need a bit of a brain boost every now and then.

In the short term, a boost in brain power can help you reach peak performance – whether at work, while studying or simply by improving your quality of life.

In the long term, brain-boosting ingredients can help stave off the onslaught of degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s. Research into the super-ingredients which will help ensure a healthy mind is ever-evolving, as new research shines a light on how we can all keep our minds healthier, for longer.

But which ingredients should you consider incorporating into your diet for the best results?

Olive Oil

A key component of the much-lauded ‘Mediterranean Diet’, olive oil is a true superfood. Rich in brain-protective antioxidants, a diet which includes plenty of brain-loving olive oil will help fight cognitive decline by protecting the brain from inflammation. Add some to pasta dishes and salads, and use in place of other less healthy oils whilst cooking.

Macadamia Nuts

Nut butters have grown enormously in popularity over the last 18 months and little wonder when you consider all of the healthy fats and oils nuts contain. Macadamia nuts are amongst the best, packed with essential vitamins and minerals including vitamins A and B plus calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron.

Blueberries

A study by Reading University found evidence to suggest that consuming blueberries can help delay or improve short term memory loss due to the compound anthocyanin. They also make a healthy snack for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Cashew Nuts

Nuts in general are brilliant for the brain. Cashew nuts are lauded for their high magnesium content, which can help prevent age-related memory loss. Cashews can be added to your diet by sprinkling them onto a salad or using them as a tasty and healthy snack.

Eggs

Whether scrambled, boiled or fried, eggs are rich in neurotransmitter choline. They also contain cholesterol, a major component of brain cell membranes.

Avocado

Avocado is high in monounsaturated fats, which protect brain cells. Avocados can be served as a standalone dish, sprinkled with lemon juice or a dash of paprika. Alternatively chop into salads to benefit from this brain-friendly ingredient.

Fish Oil

There’s a reason your grandparents swore by cod liver oil! Fish oil is a powerhouse of nutritional benefits, packed with Omega-3 fatty acids. These are essential for the heart and brain to function properly. Some studies have suggested Krill oil, which contains similar fatty acids, to be the most potent and preferred form of fish oil available.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is rich in polyphenols, which could boost the brain’s blood flow. Try switching from milk chocolate to this slightly more ‘grown up’ alternative. We love 100% Montezumas dark chocolate.

Coffee

The effects of coffee on cognitive function have been studied several times, with fascinating results. A study by Harvard University found links to memory and heightened thinking skills – not just in the short term, but with sustained long-term benefits to boot.

Try and add some of these amazing ingredients into your daily diet, we have and can really notice the difference.

Have a limitless day!
